In fact, PBM Specialties was founded as a solution to a problem … a go kart problem. One sunny day, as is common in Florida, Doug Coberley’s grand kids were hoping to enjoy their visit to “Papa’s” house just as they had many times before—by tearing up the yard in their go karts.
Unfortunately, one of the go karts was in need of repairs. When the “Munchkins” asked Papa to fix it, he seized the opportunity to teach his grand kids a lesson in tenacity, ethics, and commitment. He told the kids to “earn the money.”
The kids, four, six, seven and 10 years old at the time, had no idea how to earn the money so Papa told them to start a company. After coming up with ideas, they started fabricating garden ornaments in various materials, then other decorative products and finally a lamp, from which PBM Specialties’ Premium Display Lamp™ has evolved.
So Florida’s best signs and awards manufacturer was essentially founded by Doug Coberley as an experiment and teaching opportunity for his grandchildren. He believed, and advocated to his grand kids, that hard work, strong ethics, and dedication, were still the drivers of a success in America.
And so here we are today, (P)apa’s (B)and of (M)unchkins Specialties, making the world a better place one beautiful sign and one beautiful award at a time.
